islamabad - The Capital Development Authority and Metropolitan Corporation would plant as many as 600,000 saplings of different species in the upcoming spring tree plantation drive in the capital to be started on February 15.

The CDA and MCI have started preparations for the spring tree plantation drive, said Executive DG of CDA’s environment wing, Sanaullah Aman, on Tuesday. The inauguration ceremony of the campaign would be held in Fatima Jinnah Park (F-9), he added.

The saplings would be planted in collaboration with various non-government organisations, schools, colleges and universities, he said. The campaign would focus parks, Margalla hills and the green belts to make the city greener for healthy environment. Fruit trees would be planted in sizable number, he said, adding that priority of the CDA was to make the capital a greener and beautiful city of the world. He urged the residents to play their role in making the campaign successful.

The CDA would plant shadowy and fruit trees including Kachnar, Amaltas, pine, taearanda, olive and others in each sector of the capital, he said.
