LAHORE - Governor Punjab Salman Taseer has withdrawn from the Appellate Tribunal formed by the PCB to hear the appeal case of fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar. Taseer has been hearing the case along with tribunal chief Justice (Rtd) Aftab Farrukh and former cricketer Haseeb Ahsan. However, his pressing schedule after assuming the charge of Governor Punjab, Taseer has asked to relieve him as member of the tribunal. Justice Farrukh as reports suggested has also stated that he too has heard of his unavailability but there has been nothing in writing and only then the PCB chairman would decide about the third member of the committee. The tribunal will be meeting on June 8 to further proceed with the hearing after it suspended the five-year ban on Akhtar to allow him play in the Indian Premier League.
