Students stage protests

ISLAMABAD (NNI) - 'Lal Masjid Week' began on Friday (May 31) and on this occasion girl students of Jamia Hafsa staged protest rally  outside the red mosque and demanded re-construction of Jamia Hafsa, destroyed in Lal Masjid operation last year in July. They also demanded release of former Khateeb Lal Masjid, Maulana Abdul Aziz and withdrawal of all cases against him. They expressed the hope that the new democratic government will look into their demands. They made speeches on the occasion in which they paid glowing tributes to the martyrs of Lal Masjid Operation. The protest rally was led by the Chief Co-ordinator of Defence of Human Rights, Khwaja Khalid. Hundreds of girl and boy students took part in the rally and they were carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans in favour of those who laid down their lives in the operation for a noble cause. The girl students of Jamia Hafsa were wearing black veils (Burqa). Civil Society members as well as children were also present on the occasion. Slogans eulogising the services of Ghazi Abdul Rasheed, martyred in the operation, were also raised outside Lal Masjid. Khalid Khwaja speaking on the occasion said that during the observance of 'Lal Masjid Week', peaceful protests will be held against the operation and tributes will be paid to the Lal Masjid martyrs.
