| Process will start on June 6 and continue till June 10

ISLAMABAD   -   The Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has invited all PTI members who tendered resignations from their assembly seats for verification regarding voluntary character and genuineness of resignation letters.

The 133 PTI members who tendered resignations have been invited individually for verification of their resignations in the National Assembly Secretariat on June 6. The process of the verification will continue till June 10, before presentation of the federal budget expected on the same day. National Assembly Secretariat has sent letters to all PTI members who had tendered resignation on April 11. The Speaker has invited MNAs in pursuance of Paragraph (b) of Sub Rule (2) of Rule 43 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007. The letters have been sent to 131 PTI members.

“I am directed to refer to the letter dated 11-4-2022 regarding your resignation from the seat of the National Assembly and to state that in pursuance of paragraph (b) of sub-rule (2) of rule 43 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007, Honourable Speaker has desired to invite you in his Chamber for inquiry regarding voluntary character and genuineness of aforesaid resignation letter before its acceptance,” says the letter sent to the PTI MNAs.

As per system devised every MNA will get five minutes to confirm that his resignation was voluntary and genuine. According to notification, each PTI MNA including PTI chief/ former Prime Minister Imran Khan will be given five minutes for verification of resignation.

Speaker National Assembly, over a week before, had told this newspaper that the National Assembly Secretariat will take a final decision over the resignations of PTI MNAs before the upcoming federal budget 2022-23.

The incumbent government wants to resolve this controversial matter of en-masse resignations of PTI MNAs, as it has to decide about the formation of the parliamentary bodies/ standing committees to pass the federal budget 2022-23. The government with the support of its allies will take a final decision about the submitted resignations. PTI chief Imran Khan, in a party meeting yesterday, was suggested by some senior party members to rejoin the Parliament and play a part as an opposition.
