ISLAMABAD - Establishment Division on Tuesday made it loud and clear that it has not issued any notification aiming at enhancing retirement age for civil servants up to 62 years.“Establishment Division has not received any direction to enhance age limit for civil servants from any quarter. Hence, there is no question of issuing any notification in this regards,” a spokesperson of Establishment Division said on Tuesday. It is worthy of mentioning here that thousands of civil servants including all those reaching age limit for retirement were excited following news of two-year increase in the retirement age of all civil servants. A section of media had reported that coalition government had decided to enhance increase in the retirement age of all civil servants by two years and a notification in this regard has been issued which would become effective from November 1st. Many believe, the move could have had political and financial benefits for the PPP government that was under the impression to win sympathy of a large number of civil servants of Pakistan as next polls is going to be held next year. However on Tuesday, Establishment Division clarified its position by refuting the reports and said no such notification has been issued. Well-connected sources, however, told TheNation on Tuesday that PPP was still considering a proposal to enhance age limit for retirement. “There may be a surprise for the civil servants soon,” said a source.
