Guard Group lift Polo in Pink trophy

LAHORE-Guard Group edged out Adisseo by 8-7½ in the Polo in Pink Happy Cow Cheese Tournament thrilling final played here at the jam-packed Lahore Polo Club (LPC) ground on Sunday.

Ahmed Nawaz Tiwana’s heroics helped Guard Group clinch the title as he hammered fantastic four goals and was ably assisted by Taimur Ali Malik, who pumped in three, and Farasat Ali, who contributed one. Adisseo, having half goal handicap advantage, also fought well the nail-biting final with young and emerging Ali Elahi playing superb polo and thrashing fabulous four goals and Alman Jalil scoring a brace and Bilal Haye one, but all their efforts went in vain in the end, when Guard Group won the final by half goal margin.

In the subsidiary final, high-flying MMS outclassed Olympia by 11-3½. Mian Hussain Iftikhar and Azam Hayat Noon were the hero from MMS as both converted classic four goals each while Hassan Abbas scored a brace and Irfan Sheikh added one. Olympia, having one and half goal handicap advantage, couldn’t do well and scored only two goals through Mustafa Aziz. Happy Cow Cheese owner Anees-ur-Rehman Barry and MD Sabiha Anees-ur-Rehman were the chief guests while Shaukat Khanam Hospital CMO Dr Asim Yousaf, LPC president Irfan Ali Hyder and Happy Cow Cheese CEO Nafees-ur-Rehman Barry were guest of honours. In the end, the chief guests distributed trophies among the winners.

Talking to the media after the final, star-of-the-day Ali Elahi said: “Although I played well and tried my best to be a main difference between the two teams, yet despite such a good performance, I couldn’t help my team register title victory. But I am hopeful of doing well in the upcoming event and helping my team score crucial wins.”
