Hand Embellished Project trains 10,503 women

SWAT - Lasoona, a non-profit organisation, has trained some 10,503 women embellishers in Malakand division during a four-year project.
The Hand Embellished Fabric Value Chain Project in Malakand division, which facilitated thousands of families and provided women with financial assistance and handmade tools in Swat, Dir, Chakdara and other areas of Malakand division has been completed successfully.
The closing ceremony of the project was held in Swat. Besides Commissioner Malakand Afsar Khan, Lasoona Executive Director Azam Khan, MPA Nadia Sher Khan, Mehnaz Fakhar, Member Board Director Lasoona project and others attended the ceremony.
The main objective of project is to increase income of 10,000 women embellishers up to 50 per cent by the end of project through social mobilisation, capacity buildings, market linkages and business development services.
Presenting the overall achievements of the project Noor Malik, programme manager, said that there are total of 366 female sales agents, including 225 in Swat, 61 in Dir, 61 in Malakand and 50 in Chakdara and Batkhela each have been trained.
He said after the completion of training period, the Lasoona team provided home-based boutique and 520 sample boxes to all the female sales agents. Later, he said these sales agents trained a total of 10,503 women embellishers in these areas. Besides this, Common Facility Centres (CFCs) were established in the above-mentioned areas.
