College professor shot dead in Khuzdar

QUETTA - A collage professor was gunned down while his colleague sustained injuries in Khuzdar, some 360 km southeast of Quetta. Another man was shot dead in Nal bazaar area of Khuzdar district, while three dead bodies were found in Dera Bugti district of the restive Balochistan.
Degree Collage Khuzdar teachers, Prof Abdul Razaq Zehri and Prof Abdul Hakeem, were on their way home for iftar after teaching at a tuition centre when two armed bike riders opened fire on them at Chakar Khan Road of Khuzdar town near the local post office, police said.
Both the professors were seriously wounded and were rushed to District Headquarters Hospital Khuzdar, where Prof Abdul Razaq succumbed to injuries. Hospital sources said that Prof Abdul Hakeem too was in critical condition.
Police and other law enforcement agencies rushed to the site after the incident and cordoned off the area. A case had been registered against unknown persons and investigation was initiated.
“The incident appears to be a case of target killing as the attackers were waiting for their target,” a police official told The Nation. However, no group has claimed the responsibility for the attack. Khuzdar is one of the restive districts of Balochistan and teachers and journalists have also been attacked in this area in the past.
Separately, a man was killed in Khuzdar district the same day. Sources said unknown armed men riding a motorcycle shot dead one a man in Nal bazaar. Police shifted the body to hospital where the deceased was identified as Muheem Khan.
On the other hand, three dead bodies were recovered from Gazi Nullah area of Sui in Dera Bugti district. Sources said that deceased were members of Aman Lashkar (peace force) who were kidnapped about 6 months ago by armed men.
Meanwhile, unidentified men gunned down a man in Mastung, while armed men kidnapped a person in Chaman.
According to police, armed men opened indiscriminate fire on a shop at Chandi Road and managed to flee from the scene. Resultantly, a man identified as Ghulam Haider sitting there sustained critical wounds and died instantly. Being informed, police rushed to the site and shifted the body to a local hospital for medico-legal formalities. Motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained.
In another incident, some armed men kidnapped a person in Chaman town, nearing Afghanistan border. Sources said that the culprits made hostage Muhammad Siddiq at the gunpoint, and later fled towards unspecified location after bundling him into a vehicle.
Police have registered a case and started investigation.
