Frequently missing govt vehicles alarm law-enforcers

KARACHI - Frequently missing of government vehicles has alarmed law-enforcing agencies of upcoming threat of terrorism, TheNation has learnt. According to the reports, as many as five government vehicles including two police mobiles have vanished and police and concerned departments have failed to probe into the matter. In fresh incident, a vehicle of Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) with registration number CJ-7461 has been stolen within the remits of Baloch Colony police station. Police has registered an FIR No 444/10 on the complaint of sub inspector Ashraf against unidentified culprits. Law enforcement agencies have been unable to make any headway despite the tall claims to curtail the ongoing target killings incidents and terrorism while snatching and steeling of governments vehicle especially stolen police mobiles jolted indicating an alarming threat for the LEA. Superintendent of Police (SP) Jamshed Town Amir Farooqi said that they have extended the interrogation towards autos workshops. He also said that it could be possible that the vehicles which have been snatched can be sold to others after reconditioning while police have not get any information in this regard so far. It may be mentioned here that the first incident occurred when a CID vehicle had been stolen before Ramazan from Ferozabad area. On 12th Oct, a police van was stolen from outside the house of an officer within the limits of the Korangi police station. A police vehicle number SP-5822 was standing in front of the house of superintendent Fasihuddin of the office of the DIG South in Qayumabad when the mobile was taken away. Police lodged an FIR No 996/10 under section 381/A on the complaint of Fasihuddin against unidentified people. On 17th Oct two unidentified people deprived a minister of Sindh provincial cabinet Faisal Sabzwari of his official four-wheeler on gunpoint from 13 D/2, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, when the driver was on his way to pick up minister from his residence. The Sindh government had allotted the four-wheeler No GS-6886to Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). Police lodged an FIR against the unidentified armed men. On 29th Oct, two armed men snatched a Labour Ministry officials government vehicle near New Dhoraji Colony within the remits of Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station. Police said that two unidentified motorcyclists snatched the vehicle on gunpoint from the driver of government official Asma when she was parking the car, bearing registration number GA-4776, near Saima Avenue in Block-4, Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Police registered FIR (813/2010) under section 392-34 against unidentified men on the complaint of Abdul Samad. Interestingly, it is being suggested by the federal interior ministry to issue the computerised number plates for the motorbikes when government is not even able to recover its own vehicles that can be used in terrorism or any other criminal activities.
