The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on May 28 to mark Youm-e-Takbeer, commemorating Pakistan’s nuclear tests conducted in 1998.
All provincial government offices, including local councils and related departments, will remain closed on the day.
The Pakistan Stock Exchange has also declared May 28 a holiday, with an official notification issued by the Chief Market Operations Officer.
On this day in 1998, Pakistan carried out nuclear tests in the Chagai region of Balochistan in response to India’s earlier tests. The milestone made Pakistan the first nuclear-armed country in the Muslim world and the seventh globally.
Youm-e-Takbeer is observed nationwide to honor this defining moment in the country’s defence history.
