Sindh flood survivers still shelterless

KARACHI - The rains’ victims are still staying without shelter in open sky in the cold weather in various areas of the province.The winter has increased the hardships of the rain victims in Badin, Jacobabad, Kandhkot and other areas.  Though, the government has been claiming of huge amount spent on relief and rehabilitation of badly affected people, but the ground realities are different where displaced and affected people lacked of facilities of shelter, tents, ration, nets, blankets, medicines and other essential items.In this regard, Provincial Advisor to CM for Relief Department Haleem Adil Shaikh in his statement has directed the relief officials to dispatch the aid items especially hot clothes, blankets and other necessaries in the cold weather. Chairing a meeting of the officials at his office on Monday, he said that with arrival of winter the miseries of the rains’ victims increased, as situation invited urgent need of dispatching of hot clothes/blankets, medicines and other aid items.He directed for spray of mosquitoes in the relief camps, underlining the need of sending the doctors especially the female doctors for the medical checks up of the rains’ victims. He said that the provincial government had allocated budgetary allocations for relief and rehabilitation so as to save the affected people.Meanwhile, the Met Office has forecast a dry weather with cool night in the metropolis over the next 24 hours, the weather forecast said on Monday.It said the minimum temperature is expected to remain in the range of 14 to 16 degree celsius. The weather forecast added that mainly cool/cold and dry weather is likely to prevail in the region, however light rain may occur at one or two places along Makran coast.DISABLED PERSONS INTEGRAL PART OF SOCIETY: Muttahida Qaumi Movement Altaf Hussain has said that special persons can play a leading role in the development of the country if they are given opportunities.In a message on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities Altaf Hussain said that the MQM wants the people with disabilities to become a useful part of the society, said a statement issued by the MQM here on Monday.Altaf Hussain said that the disabled persons are also an integral part of our society and it is our responsibility look after them in a proper manner. He said that the government should carry out legislation to protect the rights of the disabled people and set up specialized institutions for their needs. He said that the people with disabilities should be encouraged to take part in every department of life.IGP seeks report regarding killing of Maulana Ismail: The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Sindh, Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari has sought a report from AIG Karachi on the killing of Maulana Ismail on Abul Hassan Isphani Road here on Monday.A police statement said that the report should pertain to overall security steps in the concerned zone and on the initial findings on forensic basis.The IGP directed that there should be joint patrolling of police and Rangers in the sensitive areas of the city.He also called for picketing and snap checking and keeping an eye on miscreants.The IGP stressed that the security of Madaris, mosques and Imambargahs be beefed up.He also directed that the evidences be evaluated on scientific basis for the arrest of the killers.
