Rawalpindi - A large number of students of Riphah International University (RIU) Al-Meezan Campus yesterday staged a protest demonstration in the premises of the varsity against the proposal of transferring two departments of university to other institutions in Islamabad.
The students also observed strike to force the university administration to withdraw the proposed decision of shifting the two departments including Medicine and Physiotherapy to WISH University, H-8 and Ripah University’s department of Dentistry, Sector G-7, Islamabad.
According to details, the male and female students of medicine and physiotherapy gathered in the varsity premises and demonstrated against the proposed decision of university administration of shifting the female students to WISH University H-8 and Riphah University’s Department of Dentistry, Sector G-7 Islamabad.
They were chanting slogans against the varsity administration and demanding for cancellation of proposed plan of shifting the female students from Rawalpindi to Islamabad. ‘It is the basic right of students to know about changing of their department location without their consent,’ were the slogans chanted by many students.
At the time of protest, media wasn’t allowed to enter inside the university and administration also snatched the personal cameras of students of media studies, who were trying to make videos of the protest.
Students tried to come out on road to let their demands heard in public but administration called police and barred the protestors from going outside.
“The point is that when parents have sent their children to nearby accessible university campuses for their own ease then why administration cannot manage the bulging students they are accommodating, they are taking hefty fees from students but cant give them quality education they deserve” said a student.
The varsity management arrived on the spot and negotiated with the protestors that they would consider the complaints of students and would decide through a survey in favour of the majority students and their parents.
