Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti revealed on Monday that security forces thwarted a major terrorist plan aimed at targeting children during Independence Day celebrations.

Addressing a press conference alongside security officials, Bugti confirmed the arrest of Dr Usman Qazi, a lecturer at BUITEMS University, who was allegedly facilitating militants. He noted that Qazi had previously dropped a suicide bomber at Quetta railway station in an attack that killed 32 people.

Bugti said the foiled plot sought to cause mass casualties on August 14, but timely intelligence and swift action prevented the tragedy. During the briefing, a confessional video of Qazi was shown, in which he admitted to providing logistical support, arranging weapons, and relaying targets via encrypted platforms.

The chief minister warned that terrorist outfits, including the BLA and Majid Brigade, were actively brainwashing youth and coercing women into carrying out attacks. He stressed that while the state has the capability to crush terrorism, collective punishment would not be applied, as the government seeks to distinguish militants from ordinary citizens.

Bugti urged parents to remain vigilant about their children’s activities and cautioned the public against falling prey to propaganda narratives centered on deprivation or missing persons. He reiterated that the government is open to dialogue but will not tolerate violence against civilians.

Ongoing investigations are expected to uncover further details about the propaganda networks being used against the state. Bugti reaffirmed the government’s resolve, stating that those misleading the people will be brought to justice.
