ISLAMABAD - UNICEF has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of 333 lives - including 21 children - due to flash floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since 15 August. The disaster has severely impacted children, with disrupted education, displacement, and increased health and protection risks.
In response, UNICEF has dispatched essential medicines to affected areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan and stands ready to scale up its support alongside the Pakistani government.
This year’s monsoon rains have been 50-60% more intense than in 2024, resulting in the deaths of 171 children since late June. With further heavy rains expected until mid-September, UNICEF remains on high alert and committed to supporting recovery and resilience efforts.
