FIA directed to submit final challan in Khanani, Kalia case

KARACHI - The special court of banking crimes on Friday directed the FIA to submit final challan against accused Javed Khanani and Munaf Kalia, allegedly involved in foreign exchange case, within fifteen days. While conducting the hearing of the case, Special Court Judge, Muhammad Hussain Mallah gave the last chance to the investigators to submit the final challan before the court in the next hearing otherwise the court would consider the interim challan as the final one. The court also directed the FIA to complete the diary of the case and submit it before the court. Meanwhile, the medical report of Hanif Kalia was submitted before the court, and the court was told that Kalia was being provided medical treatment. The directors of the company, Munaf Kalia and Javed Khanani, were present in the court but their co-accused Hanif Kalia was not brought in the court due to medical problems. Anti-Terrorist Court (ATC) II has taken serious notice of the absence of accused's council and directed him to ensure his presence in the court, otherwise, the court would provide legal assistance to the accused to conduct its proceedings. Meanwhile, ATC judge Abdul Ghaffoor Memon conducted the hearing of the kidnapping for ransom case, in which Salman Qureshi and others were accused of allegedly involved in the abduction case of one Khurram Javed. According to the prosecution, the accused had kidnapped Khurram for ransom within the jurisdiction of Shahrae-Faisal Police Station last year. The police have registered a case aginst the culprits after their arrest on the complaint of Nawaz Ahmed Javed. Witnesses of the case including, the victim, complainant and Irshad claimed that they had paid ransom money to the accused while SIP Inspector Ch Imtiaz recorded their statements before the court. Nasir Mehmood advocate appeared on behalf of the prosecution. The court took serious notice of the slow process of proceedings due to absence of council of one accused Laiba and directed her lawyer Raza Hashmi to appear before the court in the next hearing otherwise a substitute lawyer would be appointed for the culprit. Later, the court has adjourned till February 28.
