BHC orders FIR registration over girl’s suicide

QUETTA - A bench of Balochistan High Court (BHC) yesterday directed the district administration of Qilla Saifullah to register an FIR against the principal of the college over the suicide of a girl student.
Saqiba Kakar, a 17-year-old intermediate student of Government Girls Degree College Muslim Bagh, had led a protest against suspension of classes at her college owing to a shortage of female teachers, allegedly committed suicide two weeks ago after the college principal refused to send her examination form to the intermediate education board. Justice Shakil Baloch of BHC, hearing a plea of the girl’s family, asked why the FIR of the case was not being registered on the application of Saqiba Kakar’s family lawyer.
The judge after hearing the sides ordered the district administration to produce a copy of the FIR before the bench on the next hearing of the case.
The bench granted time to the administration till Tuesday for sending an application to home secretary for formation of a judicial commission to look into the incident and adjourned the court hearing. Saqiba Kakar’s relatives and female students of the college had staged a protest outside the court on Wednesday demanding registration of a case against the college principal and a clerk.
Earlier, officials apprised the court about the ongoing investigation into the circumstances that led the student to commit suicide.

Spokesman of FC said the paramilitary forces reacting to an intelligence tip-off regarding presence of terrorists conducted operation in suburb of main town Dera Bugti.
The extremists hiding in the area, upon sight of the security personnel, started firing. Security forces retaliated and killed two terrorists of a defunct organisation and arrested another in injured condition.
The spokesman said that terrorists killed and arrested were involved in attacks on convoys of security personnel, blasting gas pipelines, targeting public installations, kidnapping and other terrorist activities.
