LAHORE - A two-day exhibition of pressed flowers’ art titled “Furniture collectibles” by Nayyer Zia concluded at Studio79 yesterday.
Having 20 years experience in photography, Nayyer Zia said he was inspired by the nature and he used the nature’s colours in his artworks.
Zia said he used bright colours as pressed flowers art was all about intensity of vibrant colours. The pressed flower craft consists of drying flower petals and leaves in a flower press to squash and exclude light and moisture. The pressed flowers and leaves can be used in a variety of craft projects.
The art has been practiced in Japan and there it was known as Oshibana and in China.In the exhibition 269 pressed flowers on display and wildlife photographs by Nayyer Zia have been on display. The pressed flower art set foots in England during the Victorian era and also practiced in currently used in the United States.
Zia applied pressed petals and leaves to wood furnishings using the technique of Decoupage and come up with some new and refreshing artworks which were appreciated by the visitors. A number of people visited the exhibition on the opening day.
Ajoka’s Dara awarded
LAHORE: Ajoka Theater's famous play "Dara" awarded with prestigious British's eastern eye award.
"Dara" an outstanding theatre play originally produced by Ajoka Theatre and adapted by the National Theatre UK last year, received the Best Play award at the grand Eastern Eye Award for Art and Culture at a prestigious ceremony held at the magnificent Royal Festival Hall in London on 22 May this year. Dara had 36 shows in Lyttelton theatre London from January 20 2015 till 4th April 2015 where it unanimously enthralled the audience. British media wrote rave reviews about the theme and story of play and Telegraph London declared it best play of the decade.–Staff Reporter
The play is set in sixteen century and highlights the historical conflict between two Mughal Princes Dara Shikoh and Aurangzeb Alamgir.
National theatre of UK is a prestigious institution and recognition from them is a big achievement for Pakistan told by Shahid Nadeem who wrote Dara in 2010.
