ISLAMABAD - Some five hydel power projects schedule to complete by 2016 would add electricity over 5‚789 megawatts which in result would help meet the future energy requirements of the country. 
Sources in Water & Power Development Authority (Wapda) told that these hydel power projects located in different parts of the country with a capacity to produce electricity over 5‚789 megawatts‚ would be completed by 2016.  These power projects would help meet the energy requirements of the country.
“Keeping in mind the availability of hydel sources of power generation, hydel power generation would be the viable and cheap solution to meet future energy requirements of the country,” a senior official at Wapda said, adding,”Private power producers should invest in country’s hydroelectric power projects which have been designed to meet the future energy requirements of the country and the government should prepare the level playing field for the private investors.”
Giving details of the future hydel power projects, the sources informed that Diamer-Bhasha Dam Project which is situated on River Indus would generate 4500 megawatts electricity and store over eight million acre feet of water to meet growing power and irrigation needs. Similarly, the Golen Gol Hydropower Project‚ being constructed by Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) in district Chitral‚ would complete in 2015 and will produce 106 MW. Again, the Neelum-Jhelum Hydroelectric Project, which is being constructed over river Neelum would be completed in 2016, and this hydel power project would produce 969 MW of electricity.
 More, the Duber Khwar Hydropower Project located on Khan Khwar River in District Kohistan would produce 130 MW power. Further, the Kurram hydropower project would produce 84 MW power and it will be completed within 48 months, they added.
