KARACHI- Electronic short circuit was the reason behind the fire incident in Baldia Garments factory that claimed 259 lives, investigators revealed on behalf of the available video captured by the close circuit cameras installed inside of the factory.
Police investigators managed to retrieve the videos of factory and also took into custody at least a dozen security guards and staffers to probe the incident with different aspects.
Senior police officer Farooq Awan while talking to the newsmen said that the six out of 20 cameras installed inside the factory were working at the time of incident. Available videos unveiled that the fire erupted in the first floor of the factory after a spark and engulfed the flammable stuff frequently. Resultantly, heat and flames exploded the boiler fixed at the first floor of the factory and set ablaze the enter factory.
He said that we are looking into the matter of single exit point. He ruled out that the possibility of any terrorist and criminal activity.
FIA Spokesman Abbas Baloch while said that footages retrieved were not indicting any kind of the criminal instinct. He said that probe ahead of the closure of exit gates was still under investigation.
Sources privy to the matter told that authorities were responsible for the increase in number of casualties. Sources pointed out that number of victims were in contact with their families after around six or seven hours of the fire. People survived at least eight hours after the fire and most of them were seen alive on the windows of the factory till late evening. Sources said that machineries available were not used to make exit points for the people stuck inside the factory. Sources said that mismanagement was the main reason behind the proportional increase in death toll.
Sources said that suggestions were under consideration ahead of the use of excavator to make the exit points but authorities could not take the decision on time.
