1,500kg hazardous fake tea seized in Peshawar raid

Peshawar  -  Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority teams raided a production unit inside a residential house on Phandu Road and seized 1,500 kilograms of fake and hazardous tea on Thursday.

The tea was produced under unhygienic conditions using chickpea husk, artificial colouring agents, and used cooking oil. The operation followed a tip-off from confidential sources. The adulterated tea was packed in branded packaging and distributed across various localities on Peshawar’s outskirts, posing serious health risks to consumers. Legal action has been initiated under the KP Food Safety Act against those operating the illegal unit.

Provincial Minister for Food Zahir Shah Toru said the government will take strict action against those endangering public health. “Such enemies of public health deserve no concession and will be dealt with an iron hand,” he stated.

Zahir Shah said the Food Safety Authority conducts daily monitoring across the province to ensure safe and quality food for the public. He affirmed the government’s commitment to enforcing food safety laws rigorously.
