DPM Dar highlights importance of IWT to Pakistan's water security

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar has underscored the critical importance of Indus Water Treaty (IWT) to Pakistan's water security and ecological stability.

He was addressing a gathering of the British-Pakistani Lawyers Forum in London.

The meeting was held in connection with India's unlawful attempt to unilaterally suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, which an action that constitutes both a red line and an existential threat to Pakistan's two hundred forty million citizens.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the 1960 World Bank brokered agreement, which governs eighty percent of Pakistan's freshwater resources and sustains the lives of two hundred and forty million people, cannot be unilaterally suspended or held in abeyance.

During the meeting, the participating lawyers unanimously condemned India's actions as a form of "water warfare," and committed to establishing a UK-based legal task force.

This task force will focus on defending Pakistan's rights under the treaty and mobilizing international legal and diplomatic support.

The meeting marked the 3rd gathering of the British-Pakistani Lawyers Forum, an initiative launched by the Pakistan High Commission in London in collaboration with Barrister Amjad Malik.
