ATC sentences four PTI workers in Nov 26 protest case

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday sentenced four Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers to four months in prison over the November 26 protest case.

ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah announced the verdict after hearing arguments from prosecutor Zaheer Shah and defence lawyers. The convict Amir Khan, Sardar Khan, Khan Muhammad, and Javed Iqbal—were found guilty of arson and vandalism in a case registered at Attock’s Hanjra police station.

During proceedings, the workers admitted to participating in the violent protest on the call of party leadership and sought leniency, citing their status as poor labourers.

Earlier this year, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted bail to dozens of PTI workers in the same case.

In May, a two-member bench led by Acting Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Muhammad Asif ordered the release of 86 workers on surety bonds of Rs 10,000 each, while in February the court had granted bail to 120 detainees and directed their immediate release.
