ISLAMABAD  -   Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Sunday warmly welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s decision to appoint PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari as head of Pakistan’s diplomatic delegation amid rising tensions with India, hailing it as a timely move to project Pakistan’s narrative on the global stage.

PPP Parliamentarians Secretary General Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari described the appointment as a “commendable and farsighted step” by the Prime Minister, emphasizing that Bilawal Bhutto’s leadership on the foreign front will enhance Pakistan’s international credibility.

“The Bhutto family has a historic legacy of serving the nation and defending it on both internal and external fronts. Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has already proven himself as a credible voice of peace and democracy, and his stance inside and outside Parliament against the Modi government’s war hysteria has reflected true statesmanship,” Bukhari said.

Senator Rubina Khalid, Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme, also welcomed the move, saying, “Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s decision to entrust Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari with the diplomatic leadership is a positive development. As Foreign Minister, Bilawal had already demonstrated unmatched diplomatic skill and helped rebuild Pakistan’s global standing.”

PPP Secretary Information Nadeem Afzal Chan echoed similar sentiments, calling the decision “wise and well-calculated.” “The world acknowledges Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s political and diplomatic competence. His lineage, being the grandson of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and son of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto – reflects a legacy of strong foreign policy leadership. The Bhuttos have always been at the forefront of defending Pakistan’s interests,” Chan said.

PPP leader Shazia Marri said that Bilawal has “successfully carried Pakistan’s narrative” to the world. “While our armed forces defended our borders, Bilawal Bhutto defended our stance globally with clarity and strength. His return to the international diplomatic front has left the Modi government visibly rattled.”

Senator Waqar Mehdi, PPP Sindh’s General Secretary, lauded the Prime Minister’s decision, calling Bilawal the “best choice to represent Pakistan on the foreign front.”

As part of the diplomatic outreach, Bilawal will lead a high-level delegation to Europe to present Pakistan’s case following India’s aggressive actions in the region, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and escalatory rhetoric from Indian leadership.

The delegation will meet global leaders, think tanks, and media to highlight Pakistan’s commitment to peace and regional stability, and to counter India’s “false narrative” following the recent armed conflict.

This diplomatic initiative comes in the wake of a US-brokered ceasefire on May 10, which paused a rapidly escalating military confrontation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
