PM Shehbaz, US Secretary Rubio discuss regional peace

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, offering Pakistan’s support in fostering peace in the Middle East and underscoring the importance of regional diplomacy.

During the call, PM Shehbaz extended well wishes to US President Donald Trump and commended Secretary Rubio’s role in helping defuse tensions between Pakistan and India. He described Trump’s past remarks about Pakistan as encouraging for regional stability, particularly in South Asia.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s readiness for constructive engagement, the prime minister stressed the importance of meaningful dialogue with India on all key issues—particularly Kashmir, the Indus Waters Treaty, trade, and joint efforts against terrorism.

He also voiced concern over the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict and reiterated Pakistan’s willingness to contribute to any peace initiative in the Middle East.

On strengthening bilateral ties, PM Shehbaz emphasized expanding cooperation with the US in trade, energy, IT, and mineral development. He assured robust action against outlawed terrorist groups such as the BLA and TTP, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to eradicating terrorism.

Referring to the recent meeting between Field Marshal Asim Munir and President Trump as a positive development, the premier reiterated his invitation for Trump to visit Pakistan and also extended a formal invitation to Secretary Rubio.

Secretary Rubio, in turn, praised Pakistan’s efforts against terrorism and welcomed its role in promoting peace in the region. He acknowledged Pakistan’s strategic position and its potential to contribute meaningfully to regional stability through its engagement with Iran.
