In Pakistan, unpaid internships are becoming common, especially in media, non-profits, and corporate fields. While they can provide valuable experience, they exclude talented students from low-income backgrounds who cannot afford to work without pay, deepening inequality.
Organisations must understand that fair stipends are not just compensation, but an investment in future professionals. The government and private sector should work together to regulate internships, ensuring they offer opportunity rather than exploitation.
