KP CM visits flood-hit Buner, assures rehabilitation of victims

Buner  -  Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Khan Gandapur on Sunday visited flood-affected areas of Pir Baba and Bashonai in district Buner to assess damages and review ongoing relief efforts.

He was accompanied by provincial cabinet members, MNA Barrister Gohar, Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, and other senior officials.

During the visit, the CM met with affected families, condoled with the relatives of those who lost their lives in the floods, and offered prayers for the deceased. Expressing deep grief, he said the loss of precious human lives was an irreparable tragedy, and assured that the provincial government stood shoulder to shoulder with the victims in this difficult hour.

“Human lives cannot be replaced, but the government will not leave the victims alone,” Gandapur said, pledging maximum assistance. He assured that all financial losses would be fully compensated and that government infrastructure damaged by the floods would be restored without delay.

The CM added that while rescue and relief operations were underway, a comprehensive damage assessment would soon be completed to ensure timely rehabilitation and disbursement of compensation. He reaffirmed that every affected individual would receive 100 percent compensation and that no one would be left out.

Meanwhile, the KP Chief Minister also chaired a high-level meeting at the office of the Commissioner Malakand Division to review the situation arising from the recent floods.

Officials briefed the CM on the scale of damages in Swat, ongoing rescue and relief operations, and the status of infrastructure rehabilitation. The city of Mingora was reported to be the hardest hit by the floods. Relief efforts are underway with active participation from government departments and the district administration. Surveys of damaged public infrastructure and private properties are also in progress.

Gandapur directed authorities to deploy additional machinery from other districts to expedite debris removal in Swat.

“The provincial government has already released Rs3 billion to the Communication and Works Department as well as the Relief and Rehabilitation Department,” Gandapur added. He stressed that food, medicines, and other essential supplies must remain readily available for flood victims.

“Unlike in the past, our government will prove that every promise made to flood victims will be fulfilled.”

He assured that funds for rehabilitation and compensation would be provided on a priority basis, reaffirming that the government would not abandon flood victims in this difficult time.

To prevent future disasters, the CM announced the formation of a committee under the Deputy Commissioner to demarcate the riverbeds of the Swat River in consultation with elected representatives and based on revenue records. The measure aims to minimize human and financial losses from future floods.
