Dengue outbreak claims one life, several critical

ABBOTTABAD  -   A dengue outbreak in Nawan Shehr Meera, Abbottabad, has escalated rapidly, with more than 16 confirmed cases—including five members of one family.

Local sources report that the first casualty was a woman, the widow of Abdul Waheed Khan, who succumbed to the disease at Ayub Medical Complex on Saturday after being under intensive care for several days. Her three sons, also infected, remain hospitalized in critical condition.

Residents have voiced serious concern about the outbreak’s swift spread, citing inadequate fumigation and preventive measures. As one resident stated, “Entire families are suffering because no proper dengue spray was carried out in our neighborhood.”

Hospital authorities confirmed that special dengue wards have been established at Ayub Medical Complex, where dozens of suspected cases are being reported daily. Doctors are advising the public to use mosquito nets, wear full-sleeved clothing, and eliminate stagnant water around homes to combat mosquito breeding.

District health officials have declared an emergency in the area, dispatching teams to conduct fumigation, raise awareness, and collect blood samples for early detection of new cases.

They warned that without immediate preventive measures, the number of dengue patients could rise further—particularly with the ongoing monsoon season providing ideal conditions for mosquito breeding.
