The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that the ongoing severe heatwave will persist throughout the week due to a dominant high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere.
According to the Met Office, temperatures in the southern regions—including Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan—are expected to remain 4 to 6°C above normal from May 20 to 24. Meanwhile, in the northern and central areas such as upper and central Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, temperatures may rise 5 to 7°C above the seasonal average.
The extreme heat may also lead to dust storms and gusty winds in some plain areas.
The public—particularly children, women, and the elderly—is urged to take precautions against heat-related illnesses. Authorities advise avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours and staying hydrated.
