ISLAMABAD - At least six persons fell victim to rash driving in two separate incidents in the limits of Islamabad on Friday.
The first incident occurred near to Pir Wadhai Morr at the IJ Principal Road separating Rawalpindi and Islamabad in which a speeding dump truck overturned and fell on a passing coaster and a rickshaw, resulting in the death of four persons.
Two persons, Haitullah and Haroon ur Rashid, got injured in the incident. According to initial reports, the truck driver lost control over the vehicle due to over speeding. The driver fled the scene immediately.
A victim has been identified as Khushhal while the identity of three – one male and two females – could not be ascertained till the filing of this report, according to the officials. Emergency services and Islamabad police swiftly arrived at the site, rushing the injured victims to PIMS Hospital for urgent medical care.
The incident is just the latest in a troubling series of deadly accidents involving dump trucks in the twin cities, especially on the IJ Principal Road.
In a later incident, a speeding car hit two aged labourers at the 9th Avenue near Chaman Metro Station. Both died on the spot while the driver of the vehicle fled the scene leaving the car behind. General public is banned from crossing the 9th Avenue on foot due to fast speed traffic on the signal-free road.
These repeated incidents have raised serious concerns about the lack of regulatory enforcement and safety measures, with citizens demanding stricter laws to prevent further loss of life.
