KAMALIA
The Railway Station Kamalia, though has been among the ancient stations of the railways, it has been deprived of facilities and is in a shambles.
Building of the station has been in a pathetic condition while basic facilitates like washroom, clean drinking water, seating arrangement and rest room for the passengers are almost absent. The derelict state of the railway station reflects the indifference and apathy on the part of the Railways Ministry in a no uncertain terms.
Few years ago a former MNA Riaz Fatyana had got approved a grant of Rs20 million for the development and rehabilitation of the station. Even some work was done that rekindled the hope for it rehabilitation but this amount could not be utilised, leaving the nascent project in the doldrums. Currently, roof of the station building is in a bad condition which poses the threat of collapse. Its condition warrants immediate reconstruction to avert any looming danger and enhance its capacity to cater to the needs of the passengers. On the other hand, due to poor condition of the railways, stopover of many trains has been ended at the Kamalia which has deprived the locals of safe and cheap mean of travel. The people of Kamalia vehemently demand Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique to restore stopover of trains at the station and ensure full flow of rail traffic of this route. The residents also demanded commencement of train between Lahore to Karachi via Kamalia, which they say would benefit not only the people but the railways substantially. The residents from the entire Kamalia tehsil expressed the hope that the government and Railways Ministry would address their problems at a brisk pace.
