The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a fresh monsoon weather alert warning of heavy rainfall, cloudbursts, and possible river flooding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Kashmir.
According to the advisory, an active monsoon system could bring heavy rains to Mardan, Shangla, Buner, Swat, Mansehra, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Battagram, and Kohistan, while Kashmir’s Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, and Rawalakot are also expected to receive heavy downpours with thunderstorms.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has warned of flooding in rivers between August 17 and 23, cautioning that widespread heavy rainfall and possible cloudbursts in upper Punjab could intensify risks.
The PMD has further predicted heavy rainfall in Sindh and Balochistan, with chances of flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas. Authorities have advised tourists to postpone travel to mountainous regions and directed local administrations to remain on high alert.
Meanwhile, a rain emergency has been declared in Islamabad and Rawalpindi after torrential downpours lashed the twin cities.
