Islamabad - Islamabad police have arrested a notorious car thief with the help of cameras installed in the city under Safe City Project, a police spokesman said yesterday. According to details, a car was lifted from Aabpara a few days ago and the video of cameras installed under safe city project showed the stolen car lifted by a person who was later identified as Imran Kathia. Following this information, SP (Investigation) Muhammad Ilyas constituted special team which succeeded to arrest Imran Kathia. The accused used to lift car along with his wife and other accomplices after changing his getup. He was earlier having beard but he was clean shaved at the time of arrest and police recovered fake CNIC and driving license with the name of Umer Daraz s/o Makha Khan.
Police also recovered 10 kilograms hashish and tools used to steal the car. During the preliminary investigations, he has confessed to lift 13 cars along with other accomplices including Aurangzeb, Farhad, Sohail and women of his family. He used to sell these cars in various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Charsadsa and Peshawar. He remained in jails in Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Rawalpindi and Islamabad due to his involvement in car-lifting incidents. He confessed to have struck mostly at Sunday Bazaars and other areas near Polyclinic Hospital, Aabpara Market, Blue Area, Commercial Market, Saddar and 6th Road in Rawalpindi. Special police teams have been constituted to ensure arrest of his other accomplices.
