Balochistan university professor arrested for aiding BLA

Security forces have arrested a professor of Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS), Dr. Usman Qazi, on charges of facilitating the activities of the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA).

A video statement of the professor has surfaced online in which he admitted to having ties with the militant group and assisting its operations across the province.

In his confessional statement, Dr. Usman revealed that both he and his wife were government employees and that he had completed his PhD from Peshawar University before joining BUITEMS as a Grade-18 lecturer.

He said he was first introduced to BLA members during an academic visit to Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad, where he met three individuals linked with the organization. Later, Dr. Hebtan alias Kalak formally recruited him into the group.

The professor admitted that he was in contact with BLA chief Bashir Zeb through Telegram and was given the alias "Amir." He confessed to carrying out multiple tasks for the group, including providing medical assistance to regional commander Sher Dil, sheltering terrorists, and supplying a pistol later used in target killings.

Dr. Usman further disclosed that he had hosted Nauman alias Firq at his residence for eight days before handing him over to another commander. According to his statement, Firq had been assigned to carry out a suicide attack during Independence Day celebrations on August 14.

Authorities have confirmed that further investigations are underway to trace the network and prevent future attacks.
