Monsoon rains claim 657 lives, injure 929 across country: NDMA

At least 657 people have lost their lives and 929 others sustained injuries in rain-related incidents across Pakistan since June 26, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

The NDMA said the casualties were caused by torrential monsoon rains, flash floods, and related hazards. It added that relief and rescue operations were being carried out in coordination with provincial authorities in the worst-affected areas.

Of the total fatalities, 392 were men, 171 children, and 94 women. Among the injured were 437 men, 256 children, and 236 women.

Province-wise breakdown

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP): The hardest-hit province, reporting 390 deaths — including 288 men, 59 children, and 43 women. KP also recorded 245 injuries.

Punjab: The province confirmed 164 deaths, with children forming the largest share (70), alongside 63 men and 31 women. Punjab also reported the highest number of injured at 582.

Gilgit-Baltistan (GB): At least 32 deaths and 31 injuries were reported.

Sindh: 28 fatalities and 40 injuries were recorded, with children among the majority of victims.

Balochistan: The province reported 20 deaths and 4 injuries.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK): Fifteen people lost their lives, while 24 others were injured.

Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT): Eight deaths and three injuries were reported.

The NDMA warned that the ongoing monsoon spell continues to pose risks and urged citizens to remain cautious as heavy rains are forecast in several parts of the country.
