KARACHI  -  K-Electric (KE) and Karachi’s Jama Cloth and Burns Road communities recently celebrated the areas’ loadshedding exemption status. The development comes on the back of KE’s collaborative effort with the local communities that resulted in lower line losses and improvement in bill recovery in the area.

Following the change of the Jama Cloth feeder status to loadshedding-exempt, the area is now benefiting from uninterrupted power supply, directly benefitting thousands of residential and commercial consumers. This achievement comes on the back of a multi-faceted strategy in which KE worked with the community and engaged with stakeholders, reduced theft, and ensured timely bill payments. The development is another step towards KE’s larger vision to make more than 90% of Karachi loadshedding-free by 2030.

K-Electric spokesperson said: “This achievement is a reflection of the benefit of collective action. Timely bill payments on the part of the customers and KE’s continued efforts to reduce electricity theft have ensured a number of areas in Karachi continue to earn the status of load-shedding exempt. These efforts have helped KE make 70% of its feeder network exempted from any loadshedding. KE conducts a thorough, data-driven quarterly review of its network to ensure transparency and accuracy.”

The company also pledges its support to community representatives and elected officials willing to work with the utility to address challenges on the way to reliable electricity supply.”
