CM Maryam approves major development plan for 12 districts

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a six-hour meeting to review the province’s comprehensive development program, marking the first time a chief minister has approved an annual development plan covering 12 districts.

The meeting brought together commissioners and deputy commissioners from across Punjab to conduct a thorough assessment of ongoing and upcoming projects. Key focus areas included anti-encroachment drives, urban beautification, infrastructure upgrades, public transport, and the restoration of historical sites.

Key Initiatives Under the Punjab Development Program:

Encroachment Removal & Beautification:

The provincial government has launched a strict campaign to eliminate illegal encroachments and maintain public cleanliness. Reclaimed government lands will be monitored through CCTV and repurposed for urban forests and sports facilities.

Plans include constructing model rickshaw stands in every city, expanding roads, bazaars, and markets, and installing solar-powered and theme-based street lighting on overhead bridges.

Public Transport & Market Relocation:

Grain, fruit, and vegetable markets will be shifted outside city centers to ease congestion. Electric vehicle services will be expanded in Faisalabad, and the iconic Ghanta Ghar area and other markets will be revamped.

Restoration of Historical Sites:

Preservation projects include restoring Rawalpindi’s Raja Bazaar, Sahiwal’s Saddar Bazaar, Pakpattan Bazaar, Sialkot Fort, and Iqbal Manzil.

City-Specific Development Highlights:

Multan: Construction of 22 bus stops, restoration of Wali Muhammad Mosque, and expansion of Chowk Ghanta Ghar.
