Commissioner Karachi chairs meeting on transport issues; order crackdown on illegal rickshaws & defunct buses

A high-level meeting on transport issues was chaired by Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi. The session was attended by Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, DIG Traffic Peer Muhammad Shah, Additional Commissioners Syed Ghulam Mehdi Shah and Asad Khoso, Secretary RTA Nazar Muhammad Shahani, Assistant Commissioner Arsajjad Abro, and SSPs from all districts of Karachi.

During the meeting, the Secretary of Transport, RTA officials, and the DIG Traffic presented detailed reports and suggestions for resolving traffic-related challenges in the city.

Commissioner Naqvi emphasized the need to impose further restrictions on the entry routes of Qingqi rickshaws into the city. He also instructed the Secretary RTA to meet with owners of out-of-service buses currently operating on various routes and offer them a one-month period to make their buses roadworthy and fit for public use.

In addition, the Commissioner issued directives for the complete removal of the Lea Market bus terminal. He announced plans to visit the Zulfiqarabad Terminal this week, stating that the terminal’s longstanding issues must be resolved permanently.

Furthermore, he instructed the Secretary of Transport to construct new bus stops across the city. Taking strong notice of the lawless operation of Qingqi rickshaws in Korangi, Commissioner Naqvi directed the SSP Traffic to file FIRs against violators and take strict action against illegal stops and terminals associated with these rickshaws.
