QUETTA - National Accountability Bureau (NAB) yesterday arrested ex- finance advisor to Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Khalid Lango.
A plea seeking permanent bail in the corruption case involving Lango was filed by his counsel. The court rejected the plea prompting the bureau to take hold of the ex-government official.
Lango had resigned after accountability bureau had seized wads of cash worth Rs630 million and gold worth Rs40 million from the residence of former Balochistan Finance Secretary Mushtaq Raisani earlier this month.
Lango was granted 15-day protective bail by Islamabad High Court (IHC). The Balochistan High Court had handed over Raisani to NAB on judicial remand.
Security forces conducted raids in different parts of country on Raisani’s tip off and arrested a government contractor Asad Shah in Karachi’s Defense Housing Authority area who worked as his aide and helped him rack in the government funds.
In a raid carried out on May 21 on a bakery in Quetta, personnel seized Rs57 million, gold, foreign currency and property papers.
A spokesperson of the bureau said that the raid was conducted on Samungli Road on a tip-off provided by contractor Asad Shah. Other accomplices Sohail Majeed, Asad Shah and Khaliqabad Assistant Account Officer Nadeem Iqbal were arrested after Raisani was interrogated.
