Asia Cup 2025 expected to kick off in September

The much-anticipated Asia Cup 2025 is expected to kick off on September 10 in the T20 format, according to a report by Cricbuzz. While the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is yet to make an official announcement, the schedule is likely to be released in early July.

The six-team tournament will feature India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Although India is the designated host for this edition, the tournament is expected to be played in the UAE due to ongoing political tensions in the region, with a possible hybrid model under consideration.

Earlier speculations had suggested India might opt out of the tournament due to rising hostilities with Pakistan. These tensions were further fueled by the recent Pahalgam terror attack, which has strained bilateral ties even more.

In related developments, Indian media recently reported that India and Pakistan are unlikely to face each other in the group stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The matter is reportedly set to be discussed at the upcoming ICC annual conference.

Relations between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have remained rocky in recent years, with the latest dispute stemming from India’s refusal to participate in the Champions Trophy scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan.

As fans await clarity, the Asia Cup 2025 remains one of the most highly anticipated events on the cricket calendar, particularly given the geopolitical undertones surrounding it.
