EU gives four very costly bomb disposal vans to police

LAHORE - In order to combat terrorism, four latest bomb disposal vans worth 4 million Euros were handed over to the Punjab Police by the European Union on Tuesday. IGP Javed Iqbal revealed this during a high-level meeting, which was also attended by five members of civil law-enforcement agencies of the European Union. It was held at PHQ. The meeting was also attended by Addl IG Training Sarmad Saeed, Addl IG CID Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera and DIG Elite Police Force Zulfiqar Cheema including Tijn Van Winsen, Elisabeth LOACKER, Pierre Mayudon, Michael Merker, Ms Simona Gilotta, members of European Union. The IG Punjab apprised that each van costs one million Euro having loaded with latest equipment which has capacity to defuse, transport and blast the bomb in case of any emergency. These vans will start functioning after three weeks training course being conducted by the European Union training experts which will commence from Jan, 2012. The PPO proposed to the European Union members to also provide the latest equipment along with the training of Pakistan police personnel in investigation field.
