KANDHKOT - Like other parts of world, people of hindu community celebrated their two days festival of Krishna Janmashtam with religious fervour and devotion at Kashmore, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Larkana, Ghotki and other districts. Hindus celebrate dozens of religious and ritual festivals including Holi, Diwali, Masha Shivratri, Janmashtam, Durga Pooja, Raksha Bandan, Navratri, Ganesh chaturthi and others since Janmashtam one of the most significant festival of them. Janmashtami is also as known as Sri Krishna Jayanti which is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Krishna, according to hindu calendar, it falls on the eighth day (Ashtami) of Kirshana paksha (dark fortnight) in the month of Bhadrapada.
The Hindu Lord Krishna was born on this day and their devotees celebrate this day by treating the day as the Lord has taken birth in their houses. To mark the celebrations, the day starts several days before the festival by cleaning the houses, shops, streets and purchasing new clothes and shoes. Although People celebrate this day with a lot of devotion as they fast the entire day, play bhajans, songs, present teblus etc. Houses are decorated with flowers and rangoli to welcome the Bal Krishna. In this regard Gopi Chand, Mahendar, Rajesh , Aneel Kumar and others told that Lord Krishna is one of the great Gods of Hinduism since he had played a vital role in Mahabharata. The most sacred book of Hindus Bhagavad Geeta was based on his sermons of Karma and Bhakti they informed. While expressing their joys and glad they told to commemorate the teachings of Lord Krishna the bhagavad Geeta, a sacred hindu scripture is often recited during Janmashtami day hence devotees keep vigil through the night, , People fasts for the whole day, engaging in prayer and singing hymns until midnight the presumed time of Lord Krishna’s birth.
Traditional sweets, mainly maakhan (butter) and panjiri are prepared and distributed as offerings to Lord Krishna.
