Justice for Noor Mukadam

Reading the news about the final verdict in the Noor Mukadam case brought both relief and a sense of justice. As a woman, this verdict—though delayed nearly four years—feels like a long-awaited step in the right direction. My deepest condolences and prayers remain with the victim and her family.

Noor’s gruesome murder shocked and terrified women across Pakistan. For many of us, even routine interactions with colleagues became uncomfortable. This fear was worsened by the prolonged delay in justice, which many saw as a tactic to deny it. Thankfully, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has now fulfilled the expectations of the nation. While this is a major success, it will only be complete when the verdict is fully implemented.

We must not forget that many more cases of injustice await resolution. Pakistani women are still not safe. The government must introduce reforms and enforce laws that both protect women and educate society about those laws. We must actively challenge and change discriminatory practices ingrained in our social fabric.

Justice for Noor Mukadam has been served, but there are hundreds—perhaps thousands—of Noors in our society who still await justice. This death penalty is only the beginning of our journey towards a safer, more just Pakistan. Insha’Allah.

Pakistan Zindabad!
