Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has successfully resolved internal rifts between former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, in a bid to unify the party ahead of a renewed campaign for Khan’s release from Adiala Jail.
According to party insiders, a key leadership meeting held in Islamabad was attended by Imran Khan’s three sisters, Gandapur, senior party lawyers, and other top PTI figures. The gathering focused on strengthening party unity and strategizing legal and political efforts for Khan’s release.
During the meeting, Aleema Khan clarified that she and her sisters are not politically active but are committed to advocating for their brother’s freedom. Party leadership reportedly resolved recent tensions, including a previous altercation in March outside Adiala Jail, where Aleema had clashed with PTI lawyers over jail visitation protocols and legal authority.
PTI has now directed all parliamentarians to intensify efforts and attend court hearings related to Khan’s cases, including those linked to the May 9, 2023 riots. A legal team also briefed party leaders on the current status of trials against Khan.
In a parallel political move, PTI has announced a protest and symbolic sit-in outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday. The party is demanding the allocation of reserved seats and the appointment of a new Chief Election Commissioner. A march from the Islamabad High Court to the ECP will be led by MNAs, MPAs, and party ticket holders. Show-cause notices will be issued to those who fail to participate, sources said.
This renewed cohesion within PTI signals a more aggressive stance as the party ramps up legal and political pressure for Imran Khan’s release and electoral reforms.
