Another 32 Pakistanis deported from Greece

LAHORE  - Another plane transported 32 Pakistanis from Athens to Lahore who had crossed into Greece illegally on fake travel documents in the past, said FIA sources on Thursday.
They said that the deportees were arrested by the immigration authorities of Greece when former made their entrance illegally there. A special plane carrying more than 30 Pakistani deportees from Greece landed at Allama Iqbal International Airport (AIIAP) Lahore on November 14.
A 60-member squad of Greek intelligence officers handed over the deportees to FIA Immigration Additional Director Basharat Shehzad and other officers at the Lahore airport.
Then 44 deportees were transported by a scheduled flight on November 20.
In the latest consignment of deportees, Assistant Director Immigration Ali Imam Zaidi said all the deportees were released from the airport against personal sureties and not a single deportee was sent to Anti-Human Trafficking Cell for action. He said travel documents of only two deportees were found genuine.
All the deportees were interviewed at the AIIAP and released, adding 95 percent of them belonged to upper Punjab. Human trafficking was on rise in the country, especially in upper Punjab districts of Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin, Lala Musa, Kharian and Jhelum. Sources said human trafficking was being patronised by influential as well as by parliamentarians due to which action against them could never be taken properly. Only cosmetic measures were being taken to curb human smuggling due to which the real accused were still at large, they added.
The economy of Greece is already in a shambles due to which Pakistanis visiting Greece for better future got arrested after they failed to get better jobs on account of their illegal status.
FIA officer said that all deportees were sent back to Pakistan under International Organization for Migrants (IOM). He said that IOM management not only provide air tickets to these deportees but also extends financial help of 200 to 300 Euros per head. This help was to rehabilitate them in their respective country.
He said all of them arrived in Greece by using illegal means of travel like ‘Dunkey Style’a term generally used in FIA for such travelers.
FIA officer quoted a deportee as saying, “There are good numbers of Pakistanis detained in Greece jails but Pakistan foreign office there pays no heed toward this crucial issue.”
The majority of the deportees coming from Athens were of 22 to 30. They had paid a huge sum of money to human traffickers, besides putting their lives at risk to enter Greece.  As per reports, every deportee pays around Rs 0.5 million to Rs 0.7 million to human smugglers for his illegal entry in Greece.
An FIA officer said human traffickers used illegal route of Iran via Balochistan, and then from Iran to Turkey and from Turkey to Greece. Sometimes these deportees are kidnapped by their own Pakistani people after reaching Greece.
