No Units Shown, But Money Taken

I recently received a bill that did not even mention how many units I had used—just a large amount at the end with no explanation. How is this acceptable in 2025? Why is there no standardised system where people can check their consumption history or at least confirm whether the charges match actual usage?

It feels as though we are being blindfolded and told to pay up without question. Worse still, no one from the government or the power sector addresses this widespread frustration. Do we, the people, not matter?

Why is there no proper framework to check and audit the performance of DISCOs regularly? Shouldn’t public evaluations be released every year showing their efficiency rate, the electricity distributed, the losses incurred, and the amount billed? These are not just technical questions — they directly affect our pockets. Right now, we get no clarity, only a bill.

If citizens are expected to pay honestly, the system should be honest in return. Sadly, it feels like we live in a country where billing is arbitrary and justice is optional. How long must we suffer in silence?

MASHAL,

Rawalpindi.
