Relatives refuse autopsy of dead bodies

RAWALPINDI Close relatives of three deceased killed during the armed attack on Sheikh Rashid Ahmed have barred the doctors from conducting autopsies on the dead bodies at District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital here on Tuesday. After having a brawl with the hospital administration, the relatives and heirs of deceased succeeded to take away the dead bodies of Sheikh Anwar, Shehzad and Javed without the post-mortem, which is believed to be a very import legal requirement in murder cases. The sources in the hospital informed TheNation that dispute broke out among the Civil Hospital administration and heirs of the deceased when they barred doctors from conducting autopsy on the corpses. The hospital administration was of the view that the autopsies of the bodies were necessary for meeting the legal procedure, while the relatives wanted to take away the dead bodies without the post-mortem. The sources said that the heirs wanted to take away the dead bodies under the permission of the District Nazim but he was not authorised to issue the permission in this regard as only a session judge could issue such permission.
