MPA manipulates flood situation in Rojhan

RAJANPUR At the time when the flood-affected people await relief, one of the local MPAs in Tehsil Rojhan has been found busy in dirty politics trying to breach the embankments of his rival politicians lands in the area. Atif Mazari, a PML-N MPA from Rojhan, and his brother tried to breach the link-canal in Tehsil Rojhan near Indus Highway, which protected the cultivated lands of the local politicians from the other parties. Talking to TheNation, a local politician said that the members of ruling party were hijacking relief efforts and helping their supporters only. He added that no support from Government had reached the area and relief efforts were being carried out by Abu Dhabi Governments local representatives in the area. Our houses have been destroyed in the floods and we are bound to stay under the open sky. Our children are suffering from disease and hunger. Our cattle are also getting sick. There are no medical camps and the local hospital has no doctors or medicines, said Shabir a taxi-driver by profession from Rojhan. How much time will the Punjab Government take to help us? said a farmer who lost his crops and house in the floods. He said that the floods had destroyed their crops and houses leaving them with nothing to feed themselves in the months to come. The Government was trying its best to establish medical camps in the far-flung areas of tehsil, said a district heath department official. DCO Rajanpur was not available in his office for comments while his PA told TheNation that he was out to monitor the relief efforts. The people in Rojhan have no access to clean drinking water, food and shelter for past seven days due to heavy floods. The Government should take emergent steps to provide relief to the affected people and tents, food items and medicine be supplied to protect the people from the aftermaths of the floods.
