ISLAMABAD: Chairperson National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) Khawar Mumtaz, while condemning the barbaric incident of violence on a domestic worker in Lahore that resulted in her death in a hospital, has stressed for the need of laws for protection of domestic workers as enshrined in the Constitution of Pakistan.
In a statement Khawar said,"Plight of Domestic Workers in Pakistan is miserable as they are continuously abused, rapped, tortured and killed," adding domestic violence on innocent children is the single most contributing factor for the untimely deaths of Child Domestic Workers." It may be recalled here that a child domestic worker in Lahore's upscale residential area was severely beaten by a university professor and the girl had to be hospitalized due to her critical condition. The doctors later put the girl on the ventilator due to her deteriorating condition.–Staff Reporter
