Sindh govt ordered to pay 'diyat' to families of three youths

ISLAMABAD-In a suo moto case of three teenagers who were gunned down by the police in a fake encounter two years back, Supreme Court on Friday directed the Home Secretary Sindh to give Rs1.1 million as compensation to the family of each of the deceased. According to details, Gul Baig Jagirani, 12, Zameer Hussain Jagirani, 14, Allah Dino Jagirani, 17, were gunned down by Sindh Police when they were returning from their schools. Chief Justice asked the Home Secretary Sindh that had the court not intervened in this matter, would a case against the culprits even have been registered. The Chief Justice further said, You dont know the loss of the grieved families, it was not less than a disaster for them in which their teenagers were murdered. Home Secretary requested for time to compensate the families, saying that a three weeks process was required in this matter. However, the court refused to give him extra time and said that the required payments should be delivered to the families of the deceased by 16th July. The court adjourned the case till 16 July.
