APC for abolishment of Fata, Pata regulations

MOHMAND AGENCY The participants of the All Parties Conference (APC) Thursday hailed the efforts of PPP-led government and President Asif Ali Zardari for bringing amendments in the Frontier Crimes Regulations (FCR). The APC was organised by PPP Parliamentarians, Fata chapter, here at Mohmand Press Club. It demanded immediate repeal of the recently introduced 'Action in aid of civil powers Regulations in Pata and Fata. It termed the regulations even more notorious than the FCR. Leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Jamat-e-Islami (JI), Pakistan Peoples Party-Sherpao (PPP-S), Jamiat Ulma-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), ANP, PML-Q and the representatives of the social organisation participated in the APC. PPPP President Farooq Afzal and PPP, Fata, Vice President Jangraiz Khan, JI Ameer Saeed Khan, JUI-F Maulana Samiullah, PTI Sajid Khan, PML-Q leader Ali Haider, ANP leader Ghulam Jan, Mutahidda Mohmand Jirga chief Lal Badshah and other tribal elders addressed the conference. Regarding the amendments in the 'draconian law FCR, they said that its credit went to the incumbent PPP-led government, adding that by introducing the Political Parties Act in the tribal areas the government accepted the basic rights of the tribal people. They also hailed a step towards giving the right of appeal to tribesmen in Fata tribunal against the decisions of the political agents. The tribesmen will take a sigh of relief against the unlimited powers of the political administration and also could get rid of the collective responsibility clause, they observed. They criticised the government over promulgation of 'Action in Aid of Civil Powers Regulations in Fata and Pata and termed it a license for the paramilitary forces to kill innocent people without any check. They urged the government to repeal the regulations, as they were against the basic human rights and freedom of individuals. The APC unanimously passed few resolutions, in which it hailed the efforts of President and Premier for amendments in FCR. It demanded provision of basic health facilities to the prisoners and immediate release of innocent detainees in Fata in addition to the removal of all those officials employed on bogus Fata domiciles. They urged the government to abolish the regulations in Pata and Fata and demanded share in the National Finance Commission (NFC) award.
